From June 16th to August 12th, we received nearly 60 entries from 18 Countries around the world for the Eco-Sustainable Sympathy Design Challenge. Florists & flower lovers all over the world challenged themselves to think sustainably and create new Designs & Design Systems for Sympathy Work! Sympathy Design is an important service we florists offer within our communities. Not only is it an important revenue source for many shops, but it also allows us to beautifully honour and remember those we have lost. In an ever changing world, it’s now time to think about Sympathy Design from an environmentally sensitive mindset, with sustainability at heart.
Entries were judged on a combination of design aesthetics, composition, as well as innovative & sustainable mechanics, diversity of use, and economy of means. Below you will see our TOP 3 and TOP 10 finalists, judged by FREESIA Challenge founding partners, Gregor Lersch & Hitomi Gilliam.
Our Gold Medal Winner, Johanne Martel of Canada won a Speaking Opportunity at this fall’s virtual FREESIA Summit including a $1500 USD Speaker Fee. They will have the honour and platform to speak alongside our amazing lineup of speakers Susan McLeary, Shane Connolly, Per Benjamin, Max Van de Sluis, Leopoldo Gomez, Gregor Lersch, Hitomi Gilliam, our first two FREESIA Challenge Winners & more. Each of our Top 3 finalists also received Full Registration to the 3-day FREESIA Summit as well ($129 USD Value).
Also, all of our Top 10 Finalists will receive a FREESIA Challenge Medal of Recognition..
We thank all entrants of the FREESIA Challenge for their commitment and willingness to design with sustainability in mind. We salute all of our TOP 10 FINALISTS’ designs in their excellent use of organic materials, advanced technical abilities and execution, and thought-provoking messages on sustainability.
