The Challenge.

This Challenge is about using living plants in your design.

With an emphasis on the use of living plants, we are looking for creative ways that we can implement sustainable thinking, innovative design methods, and mixed-material combinations. This challenge is also chance to think of container use with sustainability in mind, whether it’s giving an old container in your shop new life, recycling materials to create something new, or crafting something organic yourself from raw materials… it’s completely up to you!

Integrating and designing with living plants and botanicals can be a sustainable solution and offering for florists today. Designing with the end of life cycle of our designs in mind and creating something that can not only survive, but thrive well beyond its initial gifting can be an impactful way to reduce the amount of waste we create!

Entries will be judged on your design aesthetics, composition, as well as innovative & sustainable mechanics & techniques used. Living Plants in your entry should be designed in a way to encourage and accommodate continued growth of the plant material. Along with your design photos, you will also be expected to provide a Sustainability Statement, as well as an explanation of the planting system/methods used.

Who Can Enter?

Anyone interested in or up to the challenge of thinking of designing sustainably. The Challenge is 100% Free to Join, and we have more amazing opportunities and prizes for our finalists, with winners being announced during our next June 12th FREESIA Awards Livestream!

When is the Deadline?

Submissions will be accepted starting today (April 24th) until the Wednesday, June 1st (11:59PM PST) deadline.

Are there Prizes?

Yes! Our 1st place Winners of each challenge will win a Paid Speaking Opportunity at this September’s virtual FREESIA Summit ($1500 USD Speaker Fee), alongside confirmed speakers such as Susan McLeary, Shane Connolly, Per Benjamin, Max Van de Sluis, Gregor Lersch, Hitomi Gilliam, our first FREESIA Challenge Winner Felicia Kang & many more to be announced soon!

Additionally, finalists of each challenge will receive Full Registration to the 3-day FREESIA Summit as well (estimated $199 Value).

Finalists will also receive our FREESIA Challenge Medal of Recognition, mailed to each finalist at the conclusion of each individual challenge.
