Sustainability Statement

‘The more we shift our mindset towards practices that include all things related to sustainability, the better. Besides using all organic materials for this first challenge, I also wanted to consider seasonality in my locale. When I look out my window today, what do I see? There are still hints of winter with dried botanicals that were left to weather but with sweet-scented, colourful blooms emerging with the change of seasons and Spring arriving! In the spirit of the gardening season, I included “natural seed packets” as a gift to the bouquet’s recipient, who will be able to collect their own lunaria seeds to plant or give away by peeling back the husks - a bouquet that keeps on giving!

I decided to use all locally grown botanicals, either purchased, grown or responsibly foraged, just to get a real good jumpstart to the FREESIA challenge! My grapevine “window” armature symbolizes the physical aspect of my painted picture, as well as metaphorical, in that this challenge is a window of opportunity for myself and others to commit ourselves to better our world of floristry and making changes to keep our future bright!’
