Sustainability Statement

‘For years, I've been exploring the idea of using natural food ingredients, inspired by the cuisine of my Vietnamese/Chinese culture in my design work. I’ve used parts ranging from dried leaves, seeds and mushrooms for color and textures, to starches and rice products as a natural adhesive and bonding agent. Although these materials are meant for food or natural/ cultural medicines, I find it relatable and can be a large part of the sustainability movement.

For this particular design, my base (Armature) is made of recycled cardboard and branches. For form and function, the cardboard was sprinkled with dried flowers and greenery, then covered and sealed with rice paper which gives a translucent effect. In the past when I have experimented with this I find the structure is solid and the blooms stay pristine for up to 10 days.’
