Sustainability Statement
‘My Concept is to design a "Botanical Mobile" with plants, flowers & vines.
I will be mindful in sustainable design, constructing a strong reusable base structure, aiming to reduce my use of non organic materials with organic alternatives & techniques where ever possible. The plants, flowers & vines I have chosen for longevity & most can be repurposed & continue to grow. All botanical placements will be counter balanced & wedged securely into the design for easy removal, deep watering if required &/or replacement when required. I will also educate the recipient of this design with attached care instructions, a water spray bottle & information regarding future opportunities to re design the base structure through a hands on workshop or personal consultation.’
Planting system / methods used in your Design
The planting system I have used is based on the kokedama technique, with the orchid plants shaped into round balls & the fern plant shaped into a cornucopia, I have attached sphagnum moss with jute around the soil mix & overlay with green moss using organic cotton, for extra water retention. To counter balance the kokedama into the base structure of the wire ring & foraged sticks, I have used a wooden skewer covered in shredded flax, pierced through the kokedama. Each kokedama is counter balanced easily & securely to sit within the design requiring no tying attachment. Glass tubes have also been covered with moss & wedged into the design to provide a water source for the vines & additional orchid flowers, the ceropegia woodii & monsteria vines will continue to grow roots in the water, the air plants will also continue to grow with the overall design requiring a regular mist of water for weeks of enjoyment.
